Average Star Rating for WordPress Galleries

Let visitors rate every gallery entry with a familiar 1–5 star scale. Contest Gallery calculates the live average, shows how many ratings an entry has received and makes the result easy to understand at a glance.

Familiar 5-star voting

Visitors can rate an entry with a simple and intuitive five-star scale on desktop and mobile.

Live averages and rating counts

Every vote updates the average score, total rating count and detailed rating distribution.

Ratings with optional comments

Require a comment, make commenting optional or allow visitors to vote without commenting.

Flexible voting controls

Combine average rating with login, PIN, IP, cookie, jury and voting-limit configurations.

Try the wildlife average rating gallery

Choose a wildlife photograph, select one to five stars and optionally leave a comment. The average and rating count update as new votes are added.

Interactive demo: Example ratings have been prefilled so you can immediately compare the entries and their rating distributions.

Average rating vs. cumulative voting

Average rating

Average rating answers: “How highly do visitors rate this entry?” Ten 5-star votes produce an average rating of 5.0.

Cumulative voting

Cumulative voting answers: “How many stars has this entry collected?” Ten 5-star votes produce a total of 50 stars.

Use average rating for reviews, judging and quality comparisons. Use cumulative voting when the collected star total itself should determine the ranking.

SEO-ready entry pages with structured data

Contest Gallery can add structured data to public entry pages. When valid average ratings are publicly visible, the media entry can include an AggregateRating with ratingValue, ratingCount, bestRating and worstRating. This helps search engines understand the visible score and its rating scale.

Entry pages must be indexable and the structured data must match the visible content. Search engines decide whether a rich result is displayed, so rich results cannot be guaranteed.

SEO strategy: Keep your own WordPress feature or contest page as the main indexed page when it contains the gallery shortcode. Enable indexing for the original Contest Gallery entry URLs only when those individual pages should become separate search results.

Build your own average rating gallery

Create a gallery, select Average rating under Voting options and choose a scale from 2 to 10 stars. Five stars is the most familiar choice, while optional comments let visitors add context to their vote.
